If you didn't know what it meant at first, chances are you figured that out pretty quickly. If you're going to Netflix and Chill with the intention of, you know, heating things up a bit, you need all the help that you can get when it comes to your entertainment choices. So why not chose a movie that's going to do just that? Here are 15 of the hottest movies that will definitely get you in the mood. We're pretty confident that this will work out pretty well.
15 Basic Instinct
Basic Instinct stars Sharon Stone as the mysterious crime novelist Catherine Tramell who ends up becoming a suspect in the murder of a rock star. Things get sexy when she decides to seduce the homicide detective Nick Curran played by Michael Douglas. Of course, things get a little more complicated from there, and there's plenty of hot stuff happening along the way. The film was initially given an NC-17 rating and the people behind the movie actually went back to the MPAA eight times (yes, you read that right!) so the rating could be lowered to an R, which was part of the contract. They basically just had to move some stuff around and show the heated moments from different angles that were deemed slightly less intense. It only got away with this for being a thriller first and foremost. Even though there's literally that infamous private flashing in the courtroom scene.
14 Cruel Intentions
Cruel Intentions is essentially a teen drama, but it's just twisted enough that everything ends up taking a pretty hot turn. There's plenty of action, as well as tension, both of which are very heat-inducing. There's a scene that's innocent enough where Sarah Michelle Gellar's character is teaching Selma Blair's character how to kiss, but it's a bit titillating nonetheless. There's actually a spit string that connects them as they pull apart which was a lucky accident during filming and is a lot hotter than it sounds like it would be. Then there's also the tension between Sarah's character Kathryn and Ryan Phillipe's Sebastian who plays her stepbrother. She literally dangles herself in front of him all the time, sometimes with physical teasing. It creates a lot of manipulation and tension.
13 Blue Is The Warmest Color
Blue is the Warmest Color is a love story at its core, but it has a whole lot of girl-on-girl action. In fact, there's a scene that is actually ten whole minutes long that is so explicit that when the film was shown at Sundance some people straight up walked out. That means it's definitely going to get both of you in the mood! It also was awarded the Palme d'Or award at the festival. The film is about a french teen who meets an older art student at a gay bar and kicks off an intense relationship that is both emotional and physical. Actress Adele Exarchopoulos has mentioned that this was not the choreographed type of scenes that films usually have: "… but once we were on the shoot, I realized that he really wanted us to give him everything. Most people don't even dare to ask the things that he did, and they're more respectful-you get reassured during [these] scenes, and they're choreographed, which desexualizes the act."
12 9 1/2 Weeks
The 1986 film 9 1/2 Weeks stars Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke, and there's some super hot action. The film is about two strangers who get involved in a physical relationship that continues to get more and more risque. It eventually includes things like stripteases and bondage play. The drama in the film comes when Kim's character Elizabeth starts to get annoyed that Mickey's character John isn't opening up the rest of his life to her outside of the bedroom, so then she has to make decisions about what to do from there. However, despite that drama, there is plenty of hot stuff. In particular, there's one scene where a blindfold and an ice cube are involved which is pretty much guaranteed to get your girl thinking about nothing but sleeping with you.
11 Mr. And Mrs. Smith
Mr. and Mrs. Smith has everything: tension from crazy action sequences and physical tension, too. The film is essentially about a couple who seem bored with their day to day life and in a stagnating marriage. However, neither of them know that the other is a secret assassin working for different agencies and that they have both been hired to kill the same man. Then they figure out what's going on, and ultimately that they have also been assigned to kill each other. Uh oh. Of course, this is also the film that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were working on together when they fell for each other, so knowing that the heat between them is totally real is going to get your girl's wheels turning.
10 Wild Things
You already know the juiciest part of Wild Things: that pool scene where Denise Richards and Neve Campbell kiss. Aye caramba. The 1998 thriller mystery is about a teen debutante named Kelly (played by Denise), who tries to woo the attention of her guidance counselor (played by Matt Dillon) which doesn't work. Being the spoiled brat that she is, she ends up crying wolf to punish him. Things get pretty complicated, especially when a second supposed victim comes forward with the same claim. That one is played by Neve. Kevin Bacon and Bill Murray also star. As to how a confusing alleged assult case ends up with the girls making out in a pool, you'll just have to watch for that.
9 Risky Business
Risky Business has one particularly hot scene: where Rebecca De Mornay and Tom Cruise get frisky on a train with plenty of eye contact. There's that whole scandal of doing it in public thing, plus believable acting. Overall the film is more of a romantic comedy but that scene is a good one. Tom Cruise plays a high school senior Joel Goodsen who gets great news when his parents announce that they're going out of town. Joel and his friend Miles try to hire someone special, which doesn't go well, but eventually ends up in them hiring Lana (Rebecca De Mornay). Her bill, however, is a little more than expected and things continue to go awry from there.
8 Match Point
Match Point stars Scarlett Johansson and Matthew Rhys as a duo with some serious tension. Matthew plays the tennis instructor Chris Wilton who makes a friend named Tom who has a hot sister Chloe (Emily Mortimer). Chris marries her with scandalous intentions since he's just trying to get a job with her dad and then begins having an affair with Nola (played by Scarlett) who is the girlfriend of his new brother-in-law. Things get complicated as one can imagine, but the heat between Scarlett and Mathew's characters is some good stuff. Woody Allen wrote and directed the film, which ended up taking place in the UK because Allen couldn't get the funding he wanted to set it in NYC.
7 Dirty Dancing
Dirty Dancing might not be the most explicit film on the list, but it is certainly iconic and the heated tension between Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze is plenty to get anyone heated up watching. At first, Baby is super bummed out to be spending the summer with her parents in the Catskills but then, she realizes that there's a mega hunk in the form of a dance teacher and the two get to work as dance partners, and also other partners. It's the loveliest of love stories with Baby's family being against the relationship. And, of course, the famous line "Nobody puts Baby in the corner."
6 Eyes Wide Shut
Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman star in Eyes Wide Shut, a film that's basically a little weird… and has a lot of intimate moment. Nicole plays a character named Amber admits to her husband Bill (played by Tom) that she has had fantasies about a random guy she just met. This leads him to fantasize about having a new kind of physical encounter, and he even gets involved with an underground intimate group. However, he quickly finds out that he might have gotten a little more than he bargained for. At the time, Nicole and Tom were a real-life couple which gave the film some added interest in the 1990s, which is saying a lot since it was already a pretty scandalous kind of film. It actually took 15 months to film.
5 Unfaithful
Diane Lane and Olivier Martinez heat up on screen in Unfaithful, no matter what -- whether they're flirting in public or actually getting down to business. Guaranteed sexy mood booster. Yikes. Basically, Connie (played by Diane Lane) has been having an affair and her husband (Richard Gere) finds out and is more than angry. Things get dangerous. Diane ended up winning a bunch of Best Actress awards from the National Society of Film Critics, and the New York Film Critics, and was nominated for a Golden Globe, as well as an Academy Award for Best Actress.
4 Monsters Ball
This movie stars Halle Berry and Billy Bob Thornton and basically has a lot of intimacy in it. The two play lonely widowers so there's an aspect as desperation to their coupling that makes it a more intense type of psychical scene than the average upbeat film. Basically, Hank (played by Bill Bob) is a prison guard who has an affair with a woman who was married to a man that he personally had to execute. Not the most lighthearted of situations, so their affair is extremely emotionally charged which takes the sexy aspect to a whole different level. Many actresses turned down the role because of the scenes and were pretty worried about it being too explicit.
3 Secretary
This flick stars James Spader and Maggie Gyllenhaal as the boss and the secretary, respectively, and things get pretty steamy. She acts as his submissive which at times literally includes her wearing a horse saddle on her back and kneeling in the hay. Think 50 Shades but 2002 style… and maybe even more scandalous. The plot is made a little more complicated by the fact that Maggie's character Lee has a history of severe emotional problems and has just moved in with her parents after being released from a mental institution.
2 Y Tu Mamá También
This film is basically about a road trip and things get pretty hot. Julio and Tenoch are two teen boys he ends up said road trip with a beautiful but troubled older woman and it basically lasts the whole summer. The woman happens to be one of their older cousin's wives, which does not stop either of them from bedding the woman. The Mexican film is actually an Oscar winner so it's definitely not only going to get her in the mood but it's a good film to watch too. It actually never got a U.S. rating because it was a little tricky to figure out how to assign one. The film was shot documentary-style, so it's pretty unique.
