15 Reasons You Should Be Watching 'Famous In Love'
If you love Pretty Little Liars and pop culture in general, then you will definitely love the new television show Famous In Love. It follows a young girl who is trying to make it as an actress in L.A. while dealing with normal stuff like friendship and love. Maybe you've heard of this series and have already watched the first episode, or maybe you need a bit more convincing to add another show to your TV list. After all, you already watch a massive amount of television on a weekly basis, and why should you start tuning into another one? The truth is that you really do need to watch this show for a whole bunch of reasons. 15, in fact. Read on to find out why you should check out Famous In Love. You definitely won't be sorry and soon you will be letting your best friends know that they need to start watching this one as well.
15 It's Got The Same Producer As 'PLL'
I. Marlene King, aka the woman behind Pretty Little Liars, created Famous In Love along with author Rebecca Serle. That is reason enough to watch this show, don't you agree? If you're a huge fan of PLL (and you are because you have to be -- there would literally be no reason why you wouldn't love this show), then you should be thrilled that there's now another show to watch. Since you're already a fan of pretty and glossy dramatic series that feature pretty people dealing with problems and going through life, then you already can tell that you're going to enjoy this show too. It definitely fits into that category. Sometimes the key to choosing a new TV show to watch or deciding if a new show is right for you is figuring out if you know anything about the showrunner or the producers. You trust I. Marlene King, don't you?
14 It's Based On A YA Book
Famous In Love is a YA novel by Rebecca Serle, so you should know that this is the television adaptation of that story. You love the whole young adult book genre, don't you? If you don't, then you really should because YA is honestly and truly the best. If you're a fan of coming-of-age stories about love and friendship and growing up and finding out who you are, then you are a fan of this genre. Since some of your fave stories have been YA books and also TV adaptations -- like 13 Reasons Why (the Netflix show based on the YA novel by Jay Asher) -- you already know that you're into this. So you really have no excuse not to curl up on the couch and give Famous In Love a try. It's got all the classic themes of this book genre and as a bonus, this series is well-crafted and well-shot, too. You won't regret tuning in.
13 Bella Throne Is The Star
Are you a fan of Bella Thorne? If you don't think that you know who she is, you actually do recognize her. That's because she's been in movies like The Duff and was in the TV shows Big Love and Disney's Shake It Up. She's also a staple of the celebrity scene since she's both a singer and an actress. She's also super beautiful with that amazing red hair, so there's that. You also may know that she dated Teen Wolf star Tyler Posey for a while as well. You should know that Bella is amazing in this show, so that's another reason to check it out. She looks good, of course, but she also is a really talented actress. This kind of show is all about the main character and how well she sells the story. If she doesn't sell it well and you don't like her, then you're not going to want to watch and that's going to be that. Thankfully, Bella does a great job.
12 It's About Hollywood
You're obviously obsessed with Hollywood so do you really need a better reason to watch Famous In Love? It's got the word "famous" in the title, after all, so you can be sure that you're going to learn more about life in the spotlight and playing the fame game. In the pilot, Paige is living in L.A. and dreaming of becoming an actress, and it's clear that she wants to be successful but not necessarily super famous. That just doesn't seem to be on her radar and she's more down-to-earth than that. As she is cast in a movie with a famous and super hot actor, she realizes that soon her life is going to change and everything will definitely be different. If you wonder what it's like to have this happen, then go ahead and tune in because you're going to follow along with Paige and root for her every single step of the way.
11 Paige's Journey Is Fascinating AF
It is impossible not to care about Paige and become immediately invested in her journey and her story. You are going to wonder what it's like to be famous and to have your life totally change… since, of course, you probably already think about this on a regular basis. It's easy to picture yourself famous since everyone seems to think these days that it's easy to become a part of the spotlight, thanks to social media and reality television and whatever else. You will see yourself in Paige or see one of your best friends in her since she really seems like a girl-next-door. Sure, she's absolutely drop-dead gorgeous, but she's a sweetheart as well. If she was a jerk, you would never want to watch the show since you would be super turned off, so it's good to know that she's the opposite of that and is really nice.
10 It's Bingeworthy
Is "bingeworthy" a thing? It should be. So it totally is. If you can wait to tune into this show until there are enough episodes to binge (for example, three is a good mini-binge), then you won't be sorry. Your friends will be super jealous that you did this because this is one of the best shows to binge. Since you won't be able to stop watching and will be really interested in Paige's journey, that makes this show bingeworthy. Sometimes the best way to catch up on all the many television shows that you're watching is to set aside a night to binge watch a whole bunch of episodes. It helps you organize your time… because, yes, your TV watching needs to be as organized as the rest of your life. Yup. It really does. Otherwise, how are you ever going to be caught up?! You have to take this super seriously.
9 It's Actually Relatable
You may not think that you can relate to a girl who lives in L.A. and becomes totally famous… but you actually can. And that is why you should definitely watch this show. Because Paige does not just automatically end up famous. Well, okay, she kind of does (because she gets the first part that she auditions for… or at least what seems to be her first audition). But she does not seek out fame and she does not seem to care about that. She s just a regular, ordinary girl who loves her friends and her life. She's super sweet and has a really innocent quality about her, and she seems like she honestly can't believe her luck. That's the charming thing about the show. Although you might think that someone who becomes suddenly famous would be stuck-up, that's not what Paige is like at all. Nope. She's still pretty cool.
8 There's A Love Triangle
What's a TV drama without a love triangle? Some of your fave shows (especially dramas… and especially teen dramas) feature epic love triangles and so you already know that you're a fan of this. Paige is best friends with Jake and Cassie, and it's clear that she and Jake would love to be more than friends. In the first episode, Cassie even suggests to Paige that she figure that situation out. But then… there's Rainer. He's super famous, super hot, and oh yeah, Paige is co-starring in his movie. No big deal. That's not going to totally change her life or anything. You will definitely decide after watching the pilot whether you want Paige to be with Jake or Rainer. Yes, you are allowed to want her to be with both of them. That's what makes a good love triangle: when you could totally see the character with each of the two options.
7 It's One Big Flashback
In the pilot, you first see Paige as she is in the present day: super famous and riding around in a private jet. She is used to her new life and doesn't seem super happy. Then there's a flashback and you see Paige in the past, living her regular life as a college student and getting cast in the movie and becoming famous. So really, this show is one big flashback and that's pretty awesome. You know that flashbacks are the coolest, right? Okay, so they're not always done really well. Sometimes they suck and make you cringe and wish that they didn't even exist. But when flashbacks are done well, they are the coolest things ever. They help you get to know the characters, they tell you important things about their pasts, and they help you understand them more. If you're into flashbacks, then you will enjoy this show.
6 It's Romantic
Do you want a guy to sweep you off your feet? Be super romantic? Be super gorgeous, too? Of course you do. It's a big yes to all three of those questions. If so, then this is the show for you, because it's a seriously romantic story. Paige is pretty much swept off her feet by Rainer. He asks her out for coffee and then he says that he wants to celebrate with her and her friends when he calls her with the good news that she gets the part. While Paige might not think at first that the two of them have a real shot at love or a real relationship, you can definitely tell that the two have some major chemistry. It's really fun to watch and you're going to be shipping these two characters for sure (although you will still want her to be with her guy BFF -- hey, it's a love triangle for a reason). You won't be able to stop wondering what's going to happen next in Paige's love life.
5 It's An Exciting Ride
Of course you think it's exciting to become magically and suddenly famous. There really isn't another word for it. There's so much to deal with, from the money to living life in the spotlight to the paparazzi to the fans to the opportunities. A celebrity's life is completely different from someone else's… even if celebs want to tell you that they're just like you. Um, yeah right. No way. You will definitely be on the edge of your seat when you tune into a new episode. You will want to know what's up with Paige's growing acting career. You will want to know when she starts filming the movie and if there are going to be any ups or downs. You want to know what happens with Ranier and if she's going to regret not dating Jake… or if she dates both of them. Hey, you have no idea what's going to happen, and you're here for all of it.
4 It's Seriously Pretty
Let's just face facts here. This is a really pretty show. You know how Pretty Little Liars is a really pretty show? Of course, that one has the word "pretty" in the title, but you think about how well the show is every time that you watch it. The settings are beautiful, the people are gorgeous, and every outfit is amazing. You are just really into it. Since television is such a visual medium, a pretty show is a good show. You know, if you listen to that whole Marshall McLuhan "the medium is the message" theory. If you want to watch beautiful scenes of beautiful people hanging out in L.A. (and why wouldn't you?!), then that's definitely a reason that you should be watching Famous In Love. It's the kind of show that really captures your interest based on how glossy and pretty it is, and there's really nothing wrong with that.
3 It's Wish Fulfilment
Critics have been saying that Famous In Love is not a realistic look at what it's actually like to become a celebrity… and that might be true. You don't know. After all, you're not famous. You're a mere mortal. So you can't really say. But you do know that sometimes, it's pretty fun and entertaining to picture yourself as a famous person, and if you do that, then you will want to watch this show. It's a form of wish fulfillment. It shows you what it would be like if you went to one audition, got the role, and caught the attention of your hot and famous co-star. Suddenly the whole world loves you and wants to know what you're up to all the time and you really are basking in the glory of your fame. Who wouldn't want all of that to happen to them? Sure, there are some aspects of fame that suck and a lot of celebrities do talk about that on a regular basis. But that's not what this show is about and it's not what it shows you.
2 It's Funny
One of the funniest moments is in the pilot when Paige and Cassie are on the phone. Paige is driving away from the audition… and then Rainer shows up, ready to ask her out for coffee. Yup. Nothing to see here. No big deal. This totally happens all the time. Cassie can hear that he's talking to Paige and she's totally freaking out. She wants Paige to say yes and she also wishes that she could follow along, but she's okay with living vicariously through her. This is pretty hilarious since you can tell that you would act just like Cassie… or if you were in Paige's position, then your own BFF would act like Cassie. It's just impossible to be normal and calm and chill when your best friend has been asked out by a famous guy. It's just impossible. There are some other funny moments, but Cassie deserves the credit for bringing a lot of humor to the show.
1 It Feels Familiar
In a good way. In a really good way. Sometimes it's cool to watch a new TV show and feel like it's just that -- totally and completely new. You're immersed in a new world and have some new virtual friends (what, you don't consider TV characters your friends?!). You can't wait to keep visiting this place and it's really all that you think about. Okay, you still go to work and to yoga and to hang out with your best friends. But you're pretty consumed with your new favorite TV show and are so excited to keep watching. That's how you're going to feel if you start watching Famous In Love. You will also realize that it feels pretty familiar to you. That's because there have been TV shows and movies about making it in Hollywood and trying to be an actress. That doesn't mean it's a bad show. It's actually the opposite. So if you wanted 15 reasons to watch Famous In Love, then here you go! Time to start watching!
